Gerd Marstedt:
The Fine Site<br> promotes the idea and realization of virtual museums, galleries and
exhibits on the Web.
We realize that "surfing" will never be able to replace visiting a "real" exhibit, museum or gallery. Even if download times are improved considerably and shockwave and interactivity, audio and 3D will become a normal part of web discoveries, we will never be able to smell and taste while surfing, to experience space, to meet and see other visitors and talk to them spontaneously. But the web can help to gain meaningful impressions of exhibits beyond one's own oceans and borders, to become familiar with places we wouldn't have visited and people whom we wouldn't have met otherwise. And this can be a notable contribution to broaden our cultural knowledge and to reinforce mutual understanding.
