'The Quick Fire Comedy Improvisation Show'
(With a heavy emphasis on Blancmange!)
This is a two day workshop for all those young comedians of the future...well it seemed to be excellent fun too. I arrived on the second day, and either this was an exceptionally gifted group of youngsters at the outset (about 20 of them I guess...they didn't stay still long enough to count them!) or the workshop was a huge success...after watching Chris in action, I would go for the later. The part I saw concentrated on movement and mental reflex (why isn't this in the national curriculum?) the kids having to react to Chris's commands which changed constantly from 'stopping' on the word 'Stop' to 'stopping' on the word 'Go'...then groups of three, five etc and at breakneck speed...you get the idea I guess?
All this kind of thing makes for fitter, happier smarter kids in my book, whether they become comedians, actors, dancers or whatever is just a bonus. And believe me you could have placed a Video Game machine in the corner of the room...and not one of them would have switched it on. You may have guessed, I wanted to join in.

" This workshop with 10 - 12 year olds is basically a comedy improvisation masterclass over two days, where the kids are encouraged to scamper around and generally have a great time exploring the techniques and enjoyment of Comedy Improvisation. (We also offer the workshop to Adults too as part of our Education Programme).
The workshops here at the Ustinov Studio compliment the fact that we are doing two shows, tonight and tomorrow night (June 4th & 5th 1999) as 'Instant Wit' here at the Bath Fringe Festival.
