FRiday 22nd MAY

up and running...

The Fringe is underway with a

big, big start.

London Mime Theatre presents:

Elizabeth's Last Stand

Nola Rae

One of the world's leading mime artists, Nola Rae has delighted audiences in over fifty countries.

at: The Rondo Theatre

Just before the show ...Nola :

" I've appeared here in Bath 3 or 4 times since the revival of the Fringe. Why did I do the Fringe this year? Because they asked me.

This show is special it's the first time in my life I've been able to play the part of a woman on stage. It's a major step forward for me, it's completely different to what I have been used to.

I wrote the show myself and it is modelled
on the character of my Grandmother. The
performance is best suited to an audience
of 500 or so, The Rondo being much
smaller makes it more difficult to work.
However I like lots of audience participation
and I like the intimate nature of this show
which is far more gestural; rather than mime.

It's a play without words."

This is me and my Mum

" I really want her in this photo."

' The Company of Strangers '
During the interval I asked, "how did you come to do this venue for the Fringe?"

"Because we did it last year and it was such good fun! We really enjoyed ourselves last time. Also, Windows Arts Centre has undergone great changes this year so we wanted to come back and see how it had changed."

The Company Of Strangers, is a Bristol based group committed to the telling of British tales. The magic of storytelling from the Celtic Nations is the essence of what they are doing.

"We are trying to recreate the ancient myths of this country, the influences of the Welsh, the Irish and the Scots."
"This evenings performance concentrates on the Welsh ancient myths."

"The unusual nature of the Fringe suits us fine" John commented. "Our act is a mix of storytelling, music, vocals and myths. We really fit in, we are based in a ' fringe' area somewhere between music, theatre and perfomance...we literally are ,'The Fringe'."
