I am interested in creating evocative images of myths, archetypes, landscapes, theatre and stories, filled with the joyful energy of colour. I aim to awaken associations in the unconscious mind, evoking atmosphere through colour and texture, drawing the viewer into the narrative of a story. Cecil Collins wrote (in 1935) - "My works are visual music of the kingdoms of the imagination. There is in all human beings a secret, personal life - untouched, unprotected, won from communal life. It is this sensitive life which my art is created to feed and sustain. Thus is my art truly functional." I would echo much of this in describing my work, except that I feel this "secret life" has many elements that we hold in common so that it becomes universal rather than personal. Klee speaks of art that "makes the invisible visible". I hope that my images (which are made to be lived with, in the home and over time) will provide a way into another reality, a healing reality for many people. paintings
