Triptych installed at, University West of England.

" The work is part of a research project, which
began in my practice as a painter and a teacher
of life drawing. It sets out to question whether the
nude or naked body, figuratively represented in
painting, is unfinished business; and whether it
is possible for a viewer to perceive a painted
nude as another equal - rather than an object of
desire. Out of this research two ideas have arisen:
first, the viewer has to connect the world of the
picture to their own existence in order to
experience realism in the image; and second,
the manner in which the picture is viewed can be
as important as its content.

The Black Swan offers 3 different venues for seeing work in 3 different ways: in public in the Cafe; in relative privacy in the Ladies Toilets*; in a gallery in the Round Tower.

This exhibition explores what type of exhibit is suitable for showing in a particular place and which kind of image gives the viewer a sense of reality.

*The work is not intended to be gender specific.
My work is based on my experience of the world
and I happen to be a woman, therefor men's
toilets are unfamiliar to me. 'Gentlemen' will be
able to see photographs of the installation at,
The Black Swan Ladies toilets, and also an earlier installation at, University West of England, Bristol
