Still life with bowl and lemons |
I am an Indian woman painter, living in Ahmedabad, India. I have been painting now for about 6 years. I have so far held two solo shows of my work I paint mostly natural subjects, and the everyday scenes around me.It is truly said that one starts to really see when one starts to draw the subject. Before I started to paint, I did not know that trees come in an awesome range of greens; or that it could be such a struggle to convey the softness and fragility of petals;or that a blue sky is many more colours than that;or that sunlight creates magic ;or that the most mundane subject becomes beautiful ,when the artist sees it as that.
|
| Therefore in my work, I am celebrating the ordinary, the everyday -everywhere subject. In this is reflected my belief in the ' here and now,' or living in the moment. This is an Eastern philosophy which is expressed in several Asian beliefs like Yoga, Zen, Tao and so on. Painting is my way of being one with nature, of trying to unravel her secrets of beauty. You will find nothing in Nature that is ugly or repulsive: when it is ugly, it is an unnatural state as in disease .I therefore aim to produce a natural appeal in my work, aesthetics is very important to me.Grotesqueness, distortions and producing horror is not my path. |
